Wahiawa family of 7-year-old boy with cancer asks public for help

WAHIAWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The family of a 7-year-old boy with cancer is asking for help in making his dreams come true, one of which includes fighting off the disease.

Kainani Lopes has set up a GoFundMe page for her son Masen, a Wahiawa boy who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013, a type of cancer that his dad recently died from. After two tumultuous years of surgeries, radiation and chemo, a checkup MRI revealed that his tumor returned and doubled in size, Kainani wrote.

Masen is now recovering in a Washington state hospital after undergoing another surgery, and doctors told Kainani that the family should focus on Masen's quality of life. On the GoFundMe page, Kainani quoted Masen:

"Mom, Im not afraid to die, I know ill miss you, but I miss my daddy too and in heaven hes building us a castle and our dog Chevy is there with him."  How do you look into your childs eyes without losing your mind?

The GoFundMe page asks for donations that will help make Masen's dreams come true – including having a place to call home, going to Disney World, getting a trampoline and meeting professional athletes from his favorite San Francisco teams.
