HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police say a 49-year-old homeless man was assaulted during an argument with two other homeless men near Nuuanu and Kukui Streets around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Police arrested two 19-year-old men, matching the suspects' description, in connection with the third-degree assault case. Police found the alleged suspects hiding in some bushes along Vineyard Boulevard next to Zippy's when officers responded.
The victim initially reported to a security guard that he flagged down for help that the suspects had cut his arm and stolen his wallet with $2,000 inside.
Upon further investigation, police say the man was neither cut as he alleged nor was his wallet or money stolen.
Police believe the man had inflated his story in order to get a police response.
