A fast-moving brush fire fanned by 30 mile an hour winds continues to race along the south edge of lower Kawaihae Road Saturday.
The fire closed a part of the highway between Kawaihae and Waimea on Hawaii island.
According to Civil Defense over 1,500 acres have been scorched.
Hawaii fire department says that people in the Kawaihae Village and Mauna Kea Village have evacuated and that Spencer Beach Park has been closed.
Ground crews will work overnight to try and contain the fire. Water drops will resume Sunday morning.
No injuries have been reported.
