Hawaii LB receives exemption

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - "When I first got the news I really broke down in tears you know.  Tears, tears of joy because I have been waiting for this and praying on it.  It finally came true and now I am ready to play."

Makani Kema Kaleiwahea was understandably very excited to get the news this morning that after applying for an NCAA exemption, the Arizona transfer has been cleared to suit up for the Rainbow Warriors this season.

Last fall the Kamehameha alum was granted a release from his football scholarship at U of A after family related issues required that he move back to the 808.

Once the Ewa-Beach Native returned to Hawaii he was offered a scholarship by the Rainbow Warriors.

However according to NCAA transfer policy, Kema Kaleiwahea would have been forced to redshirt during the 2015 season..

That is until he learned this morning that he'd been granted that exemption.

Now DC Tom Mason expects the former PAC-12 player to bring experience to the defense.
