UPDATE: Law enforcement sources say Chantel Andrade called deputies yesterday and agreed to turn herself in Friday morning in Hilo. Hawaii News Now was at the Hilo airport as Andrade was taken into the secure area by deputies. She is currently at Oahu Community Correctional Center. Officers at the state, federal, and county levels had tracked her to Hilo earlier this week.
The woman accused of a fatal hit-and-run is now on the run.
Sources say Sheriff's Deputies, Honolulu Police, and Federal Marshals are now searching for 41-year old Chantel Andrade, the Kalihi woman charged with a suspected road rage case that killed 25-year old motorcyclist Keith Jantoc in April.
Hawaii News Now was the first to report, that Andrade had multiple traffic warrants even before that fatal crash and had been out on bail.
"It's very important for the family to know that there's going to be justice, " says Eiichi Jumawan, the victim's uncle.
Former Honolulu Prosecuting attorney Peter Carlisle questions why she was released pending investigation after the latest arrest especially since it was her eleventh arrest.
"She's been taught over and over again that there's no consequences for her driving when she's not supposed to," says Carlisle.
All the previous crimes were for driving without a license and insurance and failing to appear in court.
"Get the car away from her, put her in jail for enough time," says Carlisle.
Andrade is now considered a fugitive.
I noticed she remains active on her Facebook page, her latest post, just days ago, August 3rd. It's full of expletives but she does appear to be saying 'goodbye' to loved ones.
