Navy conducts controlled munitions detonations, residents to hear loud noises
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Residents in the Pearl Harbor area may hear explosions for the next couple of months as the military conducts more controlled munitions detonations.
The Navy’s contractor will conduct the detonations at a safe, secure, pre-designated location at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Waipio Peninsula Annex in August and September. The blasts are scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Military officials said the detonations are necessary to destroy additional military munitions recovered from on-going screening of dredged material from Pearl Harbor.
Officials said they have already successfully completed 22 controlled detonations consisting of several rockets, grenades and bombs.
