The combination of an endangered turtle and gusty trade winds forced the cancellation of dozens of tours to the USS Arizona Memorial in the last week.
Part of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, tours were suspended because a green sea turtle was feeding next to the dock. Because the species is endangered, park officials say they did not want to disturb it with the ferry boats.
Then on Sunday, tours once again stopped at about 9:30 in the morning because of winds, registering about 30 knots. The Navy said it was not safe for ferry boats to load and unload passengers.
The early closures affected thousands of visitors to the state's biggest tourist attraction.
Tours resumed Monday morning.
