HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's the pinnacle of the summer outrigger canoe paddling season; today competitors from all over the 808 all met in Hilo Bay for the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association State Championship Regatta
The competition drew paddlers from 80 canoe clubs from all over the islands and included 41 races for everyone from novice keiki to experienced senior paddlers.
The Hawaiian canoe club headed into today's regatta as the heavy favorites, having won the past 2 years, and 12 times in the last 15 years.
HCC was able to capture a 3rd state crown today finishing 1st overall with 375 points, they bested Lanikai who finished 2nd overall by 27 points.
Puna Canoe Club took the top spot in the triple A Division, with 181 points, they ended the day at 7th overall.
