Community Connection - Dept. of Health - Injury Prevention

The Department of Health in Cooperation with the Fall Prevention Consortium partnered with the Tai Chi for Health Institute to sponsor fall prevention programs statewide.

Ms. Ferrier, one of only 21 Master Trainers in the entire nation, is a Hawaii born gal that spent many years on the mainland honing her craft and skills and returned home to give back to Hawaii's seniors.  She teaches Tai Chi Instructor Workshops so that qualified island residents can lead tai chi classes for our states' seniors to improve their balance and help prevent fall injuries.

Stan Michaels is the Fall Prevention Coordinator within the EMSIP (Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention Department in the Department of Health) and helps coordinate the Tai Chi Workshops and presents fall prevention programs all over the state.

This Summer is the 3rd Fall Prevention Awareness Campaign involving 51 Pharmacies statewide that offer free medication reviews and balance tests for seniors, as well as tai chi workshops and fall prevention programs statewide.   Many other activities happen during the campaign.  For more information:
