HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - By age 35, two-thirds of American men will have some degree of hair loss and by the age of 50, 85 percent will experience noticeable thinning on top. Providing a solution for Hawaii residents, Asia Pacific Plastic Surgery's Hair Restoration Hawaii has become the first clinic in the state to offer the ARTAS Robotic System for hair restoration.
The ARTAS Robotic System uses a computer-assisted robotic arm and digital mapping to take permanent growing hair, typically from the back of the head, to harvest for implantation. The physician then implants the hair to the thinning areas of the scalp in designing a natural looking head of hair and hairline. The procedure can take anywhere from 45 minutes to several hours, depending on the need.
"The ARTAS Robotic System offers the latest and most precise outpatient procedure in hair restoration," said Dr. Shim Ching of Asia Pacific Plastic Surgery. "Transplant requires no stitches and leaves no visible linear scar, so patients typically experience little to no downtime following the procedure." It is the first privately owned surgical robot in Hawaii.
The procedure costs on average about $10,000 to $15,000.
