PAIA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A single punch ended with one man dead and another in jail facing manslaughter charges on Maui.
The assault happened last week Thursday in Paia.
Witnesses told police it was one single blow that sent Fabian Martinez, 45, to the hospital. He died two days later.
Fabian Martinez was a painter and he loved to travel the world.
The 45-year-old died on Saturday after he was punched in the face near Mana Foods.
Sources say the single blow knocked him back causing him to hit his head on the road, fracturing his skull, leaving him brain dead.
His family members say they still can't believe he's gone.
"Honestly I'm still in shock, my parents, I know they're still in shock. All we've been doing is crying," said his older brother Leo Martinez.
David Homalon Jr., 26, is now charged with throwing that deadly punch.
Sources say Homalon confronted Martinez for allegedly hitting on his girlfriend and then punched him in the face.
"He didn't deserve what happened. My brother was quite a peaceful guy. He wouldn't even hurt a fly. He was such a free spirit, all he cared about was music and surf," Leo said.
Homalon was arrested on Friday and has now been charged with manslaughter. He's currently behind bars without bail.
Martinez's brother says what he did is unforgivable and unforgettable.
"I'll miss him forever. It's unfortunate that had to happen to him. He will always be in my mind," he said.
Martinez's family said they will scatter his ashes at his favorite surf spot on the island.
