Million-dollar home sales are up 22% from last year! A new Coldwell Banker report counts more than 200 homes selling for $1 million or more just in the second quarter, the highest ever.

The latest local workplace caught violating federal wage laws is a substance abuse treatment center on Maui. The feds say Aloha House paid overtime at too low a rate, and must pay 45K grand in back wages.

Weekly jobless claims fall back below 8,000 – we had 78 hundred last week of which 1,296 were new filings.

Hotel occupancy eases one point on Oahu to 89% but rises on the other islands, Big Island and Kauai both up to 75% full, Maui 76, all fuller than the week before *and* the year before.

Airline profit reports – United made a record 1.2 billion dollars profit in the spring quarter, even as revenue fell 4% to a little under 10 billion – Southwest made a record 608 million Q2 profit.

Hawaiian Airlines makes its seasonal service from LAX to Kauai year-round, with four weekly flights in the summer, five at Christmas, and three at other times. Hawaiian will also lay on a second daily flight from LAX to Maui over the Christmas holidays. Alaska Airlines enters a new codeshare agreement with Hainan Airlines. Hainan flies from Seattle to Beijing and Shanghai – and to Beijing from San Jose.
