Photo of ‘mutant’ daisies in Japan triggers radiation fears

JAPAN (HawaiiNewsNow) - Years after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, a viral photo first posted on twitter is raising concern about the impact on surrounding environmental life.

The image shows several misshapen daisies in Japan. Many people speculate the flowers were mutated due to radiation from the 2011 nuclear power plant meltdown.

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant started to melt down on March 11, 2011 following a massive earthquake and devastating tsunami that followed. Thousands of people were evacuated from the area as the power plant leaked radiation.

There is no confirmation from experts about what triggered the deformity in the flowers, so for now, the cause is pure speculation.
