Honolulu-bound United flight from LA diverted to Kona

A Honolulu-bound United Airlines flight from Los Angeles was diverted to Kona Thursday morning because of mechanical issues, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The DOT said nearly 360 passengers were on board UAL641, expected to land in Honolulu at around 10:30 a.m. The flight took off at around 5:30 a.m. Hawaii time, according to the flight tracking site, FlightAware.
As a precaution, the Boeing 777 aircraft diverted to the Big Island and landed safely at the Kona International Airport before 11 a.m.
