A four-year-old boy has died after he was struck by a car on Maui Tuesday morning.
According to Maui Police officials, the incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. on Hakui Loop in Kaanapali.
Police reports state that a maroon Toyota Sienna, driven by a 46-year-old woman from Kaanapali, struck the boy with her vehicle as she headed north on Hakui. The child was in the roadway when he was hit.
Police say he was rushed to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition and died in the emergency room. Police have not revealed the child’s identity, but say he was a resident of Kaanapali.
The driver was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was uninjured. Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors, but remain under investigation.
