KIPAHULU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Emergency responders on Maui rescued a 57-year-old hiker Monday at Haleakala National Park.
The man – a visitor from Sacramento, Calif. – was hiking alone in a bamboo forest roughly 2 miles above the park headquarters when he fell and lost consciousness, according to officials. Area hikers located the man and called for help.
National Park rangers treated the victim, and firefighters later took over. A fire helicopter was dispatched to airlift the man to a landing area near the park headquarters.
The victim was then transferred via a medevac helicopter to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
