HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 32-year-old man was charged Monday with attempted murder and assault in connection with a double stabbing at Wailoa State Park on the Big Island, authorities said.
Big Island police arrested David Lester Bars, who has no permanent address, after responding to reports of a stabbing during a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found a 27-year-old Pahoa man with a stab wound to the throat and a 24-year-old Pahoa woman with a cut on her right leg.
Officers later located and arrested the suspect walking on Piilani Street.
According to police, the victims were injured when an argument became physical.
Both were taken to the Hilo Medical Center where the female victim was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital. The male victim was in stable condition and remained in the hospital.
Bars' bail was set at $260,000. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
