HEARTS presents 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' at Paliku Theater

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Follow the irresistible story of a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America based on the classic novel by Mark Twain. Hawaii Education of the ARTS (HEARTS) presents this musical stage production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer for two weekends from July 17 through 25 at Paliku Theatre at Windward Community College in Kaneohe. Shows are at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays and include a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturdays.

Set in 1840 Missouri, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the tale of young Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and their never-ending mischief. The entire family will love this adventure tale of thrilling escapes, comedy and inspiration written by Ken Ludwig with music and lyrics by two-time Grammy winner Don Schiltz.

A total of fifty adults, teens and children make up this summer’s large cast. Fifteen-year-old Ian Simon plays Tom Sawyer. No stranger to theatre, Ian has been performing on stage since he was seven years old. His other production credits include Ron Bright’s Best of Broadway, Peter Pan and Annie. Huckleberry Finn is played by Jordan Klein, a junior at Trinity Christian School. Callie Doan plays Tom’s Aunt Polly and David Herman is in the role of Judge Thatcher. Callie and David join the cast after previously performing at Diamond Head Theatre and Manoa Valley Theatre.

Family duo, director Megan DeBoard and musical director Pamela DeBoard are hoping to encourage kids who have read Tom Sawyer, whether at home or in their English class, to come and see it brought to life on stage. “The stage production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is consistent with Mark Twain’s novel,” said Pamela DeBoard. “We also want students who are not familiar with the book, to seek out this classic story and want to read it after experiencing this cheerful and entertaining production.”

Tickets prices are from $10 to $20 and can be purchased online here, or by calling (808) 387-4355. Tickets will also be available at the Paliku Theatre box office one hour prior to each show. Recommended for everyone four years old through senior citizens.
