Avoiding heat exhaustion in your pets

EAST HONOLULU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Hawaiian Humane Society offered tips to diagnose and to treat heat exhaustion in your pets, in particular, your dogs. Look for signs of your dog panting heavily with its tongue sticking way out. Drooling is also common when they are overheating. On hot days, try to keep your pets indoor and out of the sun. Make sure they have plenty of water and if you do need to cool them down, use lukewarm water. Ice cold water can shock their bodies. Also, if you see a dog in distress, call 911.

Christina Kam from the agency was accompanied by 4 month old Scooby who is up for adoption.

Don't forget, the Hawaiian Humane Society is hosting a Makapuu Sunset Benefit Hike on July 25th at 5:30pm. Go to their website to register.
