HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii's first cannabis expo opens this weekend at the Hawaii Convention Center.
The three-day event, the Kaulana Nau Pua: First Annual Hawaii Cannabis Expo and Kou Calabash Challenge, follows the signing of a new law that went into effect Wednesday which will create a regulated statewide dispensary system for medical marijuana across the state. Hawaii will license eight dispensaries, which can start selling medical marijuana to qualified, registered patients by November 2016, according to the Department of Health.
The event will include information about the panel discussions and exhibitions regarding the new laws. Guest speakers, including local attorneys, will discuss legal aspects of the marijuana laws and businesses are presenting information about new business technologies and programs available to help with the dispensary process.
The event opens Friday, July 17 with opening ceremonies and events beginning from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and runs through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be held on the second floor of the Convention Center.
