HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - By Taylor Preza
The special Japanese tradition of the Bon Dance is open to those of all ages, not just adults. On Saturday July 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Children's Discovery Center will be hosting a Bon Dance for keiki and their families.
Beginners and expert dancers are welcomed to join the fun. Festivities will include dances for children, such as the Pokemon Ondo.
At the event, the keiki will learn how to dance and participate in the special tradition. They will make Japanese crafts and play games such as Hachimaki (Japanese headbands), Uchiwa (Japanese fans), and Kingyo-sukui (Japanese scooping game). They will even get to listen and learn taiko from the Nakama Taiko Group.
Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite yukata or happi. Those, will receive $1 off admission to the Center.
General admission is $10 per person, but children under 12 months old are free. Kama`aina and military rates are $8 per person.
Located in downtown Honolulu, the Center is open on Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 1pm and on Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Hawaii Children's Discovery Center is a world-class, children's museum filled with hands-on, interactive exhibits.
