Maui Adult Day Care Centers is a non-profit that provides adult day care services in a family environment that is safe and filled with love. Kathleen Couch spoke with Meteorologist Jennifer Robbins for this week's Community Connection.
The center cares for adults/elderly who may be frail, and/or may have dementia (from high to low functioning), those adults who may be cognitively or physically challenged, and those adults who may be isolated at home with no enjoyment in life going on.
The staff is highly skilled at understanding dementia behaviors and how to work with them.
"We love to bring a 'Spark of Life' back into the days of our kupuna," said Couch. "We provide socialization and stimulation; celebrate all the holidays with parties and special events; we provide simple arts & crafts, fine and large motor activity, excursions; we play the old time music and dance the fox trot with our clients, sing Karaoke together, watch the old-time DVD's, and we bring in youth for that intergenerational aspect, as well as volunteers willing to come in to play music /sing/dance and entertain our clients."
