Man who died hiking Olomana trail identified

KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The man who died while hiking the Olomana trail on Saturday has been identified as 53-year-old Glenn Vopper of Orange Park, Fla., according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Vopper was hiking with three other men along the trail and was climbing the ridge between the first and second peaks when he fell some 200 feet, according to the Honolulu Fire Department. When crews reached him, it appeared to be too late. Vopper was then airlifted to the Maunawili Neighborhood Park, where he was pronounced dead.

The popular Olomana trail is known for its stunning views, but also has hazards that have proved to be fatal three times in the last four years.
