Former Oahu probation officer pleads guilty to theft and forgery

Freeman Sasao, 56, a former Oahu circuit court probation officer pleaded guilty on Monday to felony counts of theft and forgery, Attorney General Doug Chin announced. Sasao was charged with these offenses in May 2015.
From July 1, 2011 through July 9, 2013, according to the complaint, Sasao allegedly collected eleven payments from various probationers that had been assigned to him and kept the payments for his own use. Sasao then forged receipts to credit the payments to the various probationers.
Each felony charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for September 3, 2015.
