HONOLULU (AP) - The project to extend the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail is moving along developmental stages and is expected to be advertised for bids by the end of the year.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the proposed Leeward Bikeway is far from being built, but a spokesman says there has been significant progress made on process requirements.
The bikeway will stretch more than 12 miles from the end of the existing bike path in Nanakuli. The route is offered as another transportation route and a new recreational area.
Design for the project is almost complete and an architectural inventory survey of bridges along the path is being reviewed by the Department of Transportation.
After the department review, the Federal Highway Administration and the state Historic Preservation Division will also contribute feedback.
