HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After taking home the Heisman Trophy last year, Hawaii's Marcus Mariota is up for yet another award: an ESPY.
The former St. Louis Crusader and Oregon Duck has been nominated for the Best Male College Athlete award, pitting him against Wisconsin basketball player Frank Kaminsky, Boston University hockey player Jack Eichel, Ohio State wrestler Logan Stieber and Vanderbilt baseball player Dansby Swanson.
As the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, he's now getting ready to enter the pros with the Tennessee Titans.
Mariota isn't the only Hawaii player up for an ESPY. Maui big wave surfer Paige Alms has been nominated for the Best Female Action Sports Athlete, up against surfer Stephanie Gilmore, snowboarder Kelly Clark and Laia Sanz for Enduro/motorbike.
In January, Alms became the first woman to get barreled at Peahi in one of the largest waves in the world.
The ESPYs will be held on July 15 at 2 p.m. Hawaii time.
