KAHUKU,OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Residents of Kahuku will have a chance to weigh in and share their opinions about adding more turbines to the hills above the town.
If approved, the "Na Pua Makani project" will install up to 10 wind turbines between two locations, one adjacent to the current wind farm and the other would be opposite Malaekahana.
Once built, the nine to ten wind turbines will generate enough electricity to power the daily needs of 9,900 homes. The electricity created will be sold to HECO at a low rate, and will then be re-distributed to consumers. Bradshaw said the developer has no control of whether or not HECO will pass along those savings.
If construction goes accordingly, residents could be looking at the new turbines by summer of 2016.
Residents can attend Tuesday's meeting, June 23, at 6 p.m. at the Kahuku Community Center.
