No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.3-magnitude earthquake rattles Japan

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A strong earthquake has shaken an area off the coast of Japan, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The quake, located about 550 miles south of Tokyo, was measured at a magnitude 6.3, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake happened at around 2:20 a.m. HST.

There were no immediate reports of any damage.
