Collision in Kihei claims 3 lives

KIHEI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Maui police are investigating a triple fatal motor vehicle collision that happened along Mokulele Hwy. in Kihei Saturday night.

Police said shortly after 9:30 p.m., a blue Dodge pickup truck was making a left turn from Mokulele Hwy. into the Maui Raceway Park entrance when it was struck by a white Toyota pickup truck traveling northbound. Three passengers riding in the bed of the blue Dodge pickup truck were ejected in the crash. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third vehicle, a black Toyota pickup truck, was stopped at the Maui Raceway Park exit waiting to turn right turn onto Mokulele Hwy. The pickup truck was struck by projectiles from the initial collision between the Dodge and the white Toyota pickup.

The three deceased passengers of the blue Dodge pickup truck were identified as 25-year-old Howard Pruse of Waiehu, 51-year-old Eric Oguma of Waiehu, and  27-year-old Tyree Kamaunu of Waihee. The front seat passenger of the Dodge pickup truck was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

All three occupants of the white Toyota pickup truck were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The operator of the black Toyota pickup truck, as well as the operator of the blue Dodge pickup truck, were not transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
