HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 21-year-old woman convicted of trying to kill her pregnant sister was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Jessica Hinebaugh and her 24-year-old boyfriend Michael Ayala were found guilty of attempted murder and other charges in March for an October 2013 attack in the victim's Mililani Mauka home.

The victim, 25-year-old Casey Ann Jones, testified that the two held her down and stabbed her repeatedly with a dull knife, and then kissed in the middle of the attack.

Prosecutors said Ayala not only stabbed Jones in the back, but he also hit her several times with a baseball bat as Hinebaugh held her down. They added that Hinebaugh was motivated by a family dispute, claiming Jones abandoned her when she was a child, leaving her with their abusive sister.

Ayala is due to be sentenced in the fall.
