Hawaii celebrates Kamehameha Day with events, parades

Thursday, June 11 marks Kamehameha Day, an annual state holiday celebrating the king who united the Hawaiian islands. Several events are taking place across the state to honor King Kamehameha the Great.

Oahu:

Thursday, June 11

  • Sons and Daughters of Hawaiian Warriors Mamakakua celebrates King Kamehameha with song, oli and prayer
  • Time: 8:30 a.m.
  • Location: King Kamehameha statue fronting Aliiolani Hale

Friday, June 12

  • City celebrates King Kamehameha with annual lei draping ceremony
  • Time: 3 p.m.
  • Location: King Kamehameha statue fronting Aliiolani Hale

Saturday, June 13

  • 99th Annual King Kamehameha celebration floral parade, hoolaulea
  • Time: 9 a.m.
  • Location: Downtown Honolulu / Kapiolani Park. The parade starts in downtown Honolulu and will make its way to Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. A hoolaulea begins at 11 a.m. at the park bandstand with entertainment until 4 p.m.

Big Island:

Thursday, June 11

  • King Kamehameha lei draping, parade and hoolaulea
  • Time: 9 a.m.
  • Location: Hawi

Saturday, June 13

  • King Kamehameha parade in Kailua-Kona
  • Time: 9 a.m.
  • Location: Along Alii Drive. Hoolaulea to follow at Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.

Maui

Saturday, June 13

  • King Kamehameha parade and hoolaulea
  • Time: 9 a.m.
  • Location: Front Street in Lahaina / Kamehameha Iki Park

Kauai

  • Kamehameha parade, hoolaulea
  • Saturday, June 13
  • Time: 9 a.m.
  • Location: Vidinha Stadium to Kauai County building on Rice Street.
