MFD investigates brush fire in Haiku

HAIKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Maui Fire Department responded to a brush fire near Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 5:10 p.m. where they found brush and trash burning along Hahana Road, about a half mile away from Hana Highway. They managed to extinguish the fire, which burned about 2 acres, at around 7:40 p.m.

MFD said the fire occurred in an area where people have been dumping household trash.

No injuries or structures were threatened.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause.
