KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - A driver accused of striking a teenage girl was chased down by a man on skateboard and detained until police arrived.
West Hawaii Today reports that skateboarder Joshua Lambus says he pursued the SUV on Saturday afternoon because he wanted the driver to stop "almost killing people."
The 30-year-old driver is now in custody after police say he drove his SUV onto a curb and hit a 13-year-old girl.
Police say she has been treated and is faring well.
Lambus saw the driver nearly strike pedestrians and narrowly miss a bicyclist. He grabbed his skateboard from his nearby business and caught up with the SUV just as it hit the girl.
Lambus says he opened the door and engaged the emergency brake.
