Police reopen westbound lanes of H-1 near Kunia after semi truck hits overhead sign

WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Police have reopened all westbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway that were blocked off after a semi truck damaged an overhead sign near the Kunia off-ramp early Monday.

Officers say another pickup truck later ran over some of the debris that was scattered on the roadway. No injuries were reported in either incident.

After the incident happened at around 3:30 a.m., police had to close off two westbound lanes of the freeway for about two hours to clean up the metal and debris from the sign and to make repairs.

Authorities said the semi truck that hit the sign was being used as part of Honolulu rail construction. Rail officials are also investigating.
