Hawaii man dies in apparent drowning in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A former Radford High School student died on Thursday in an apparent drowning just outside of Las Vegas, according to sources close to the 18-year-old.

Friends of Jameson Padeken-Pasigan say he ran into trouble while cliff jumping at an area called Nelson's Landing, near the Mohave Lake, sometime Thursday afternoon. A witness said he disappeared underwater while swimming across the cove with a friend.

The National Park Service and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue Dive Team recovered the body shortly before 4 p.m. He was not wearing a life jacket, according to NPS.

Winds had reached around 20 mph and waves were estimated at 6 to 12 inches high.

The Clark County Medical Examiner will determine his official cause of death in the next few days.

Padeken-Pasigan lived in Hawaii until his senior year of high school before moving to Las Vegas, friends said.

He leaves behind his pregnant girlfriend.
