AIEA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Telephone and Internet service have been restored to more than 200 Hawaiian Telcom customers in Aiea after a third-party contractor accidentally severed fiber optic cables about a week ago.
Hawaiian Telcom technicians completed the repairs at around 1 a.m. Thursday. The company said it will issue automatic credits to impacted customers, but it could take up to two billing cycles for them to receive the credits.
On May 28, the contractor accidentally severed six Hawaiian Telcom while digging holes for new street lights on Kamehameha Highway near the entrance to McGrew Point Naval Housing. Residents in Aiea – near the Aloha Stadium – and a small portion of Salt Lake reported phone and Internet outages.
If customers don't receive a credit by their August bill, they are asked to contact Hawaiian Telcom.
