HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's time for Howard's Illustrated Economics.
This morning: America's most-visited businesses.
Most of us make frequent visits to certain retail outlets and food chains. But which ones see the most of us? Marketwatch gathered some March data to produce a top 10.
Wal-Mart beat McDonald's for the top spot. An estimated 52% of Americans visit Wal-Mart in one month, which has 4,516 U.S. stores. McDonald's saw 48% of us, despite more than 14,000 U.S. locations.
A surprising third is Subway, visited by 37% of Americans, with 27,000 locations. But that may be a worldwide store count, so, it's apples and oranges.
Starbucks is fourth with 32% of Americans visiting and 12,000 medical mocha dispensaries.
Drug stores make the list. Walgreen is number five, 29% of Americans visiting, 8100 stores.
Target is number six, 24% of Americans visiting its 18 hundred stores.
CVS is seventh, 22% of Americans visiting its 78 hundred stores including Longs Drugs here.
Burger King is eighth with 20% visitation; then Taco Bell at almost 20%, and Dollar Tree close behind.
