Autopsy confirms boat captain speared by swordfish died of internal injuries

KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - An autopsy on Monday determined that a Kailua-Kona fishing charter boat captain who was speared by a swordfish died from internal injuries.

On Friday, 47-year-old Randy Llanes died after being struck in the chest by a 40-pound swordfish after jumping into the waters of Honokohau Harbor.

The death was ruled as accidental.

Llanes, a Konawaena High School graduate, is survived by his wife, a young son and a 21-year-old daughter.
