KONA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island rescue crews recovered a man who apparently drowned in rough surf on Monday morning off Kona.
Officials say the victim and a friend went for a swim just south of the Kona Airport when they got into trouble. One man was able to get back to shore, but became worried when his friend didn't return.
Crews searched all day for the missing man and found his body on the sea floor just before sunset on Monday evening. He was brought back to shore where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not released his identity.
