KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Regatta races in Kahului Harbor were shut down after a mid-morning shark sighting.
Around 10:45 a.m. a paddle boarder reported a tiger shark at least 10 feet long bumped into his board.
The paddler came back to shore and notified authorities.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources took over the investigation and watched the water until about 1:45 p.m.
DLNR did not report any new sightings; no signs were posted on the beach.
DLNR notified the organizers of the John Wilmington III regatta of the initial sighting. Organizers decided to err on the side of caution and canceled the races.
