Drunk driver arrested after crashing into fire hydrant

Early Saturday morning, a drunk driver drove into a fire hydrant in Waikiki causing a large geyser to gush water into the air.

Fire crews responded to the scene at the end of Kalakaua Avenue near Poni Moi Road shortly after 1 a.m.

Water sprayed for about 20 minutes before the supply was shut off by the fire department.

The male driver was allegedly speeding according to a witness who saw the collision occur.

The suspect was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence.
