No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.8 quake off the coast of Alaska

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - There is no tsunami threat to Hawaii following a 6.8 magnitude earthquake off the Coast of Chirikof Island, Alaska, about 397 Southwest of Anchorage.

The quake struck at around 9 p.m. HST, and occurred at a depth of 39 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports, "Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii. Repeat. A destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
