As summer arrives, HFD to hold conference on dangers of brush fires

As summer approaches, the Honolulu Fire Department wants to alert the public on the threats and impacts of brush fires. Fire officials and other emergency response agencies will hold a joint news conference Wednesday at Magic Island at the Ala Moana Beach Park.

The news conference starts at 10 a.m.

Representatives will discuss current fire conditions with a weather outlook, planning and preparedness tips for homeowners on protecting their properties from brush fires, and the consequences of brush fires. The conference will also include displays of resources available to fight brush fires as well as firefighting apparatus.

The following agencies will be in attendance:

  • Honolulu Police Department
  • State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife
  • Federal Fire Department
  • U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii
  • National Weather Service

Parking will be available at the Makai end of the Magic Island parking lot.
