HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the sixth year in a row, Enterprise Holdings – which owns and operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, Alamo Rent A Car and Enterprise CarShare brands – is donating $24,000 in scholarships to high school seniors across Hawaii.
Enterprise Holdings, the largest car rental company in the world, is sponsoring the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) Hall of Honor and providing scholarships to 12 local high school seniors to offset college education expenses. A statewide committee of high school administrators, athletic directors and media selects the scholarship recipients based on their achievements in athletics, academics and community service.
12 outstanding senior student-athletes were selected by a 16-person committee of current and former sports reporters, athletic directors and coaches from around the state after two days of in-depth meetings. The criteria is based mainly on athletic achievement but character, sportsmanship, academic record and community service also are taken into consideration. Each inductee also will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of Enterprise Holdings.
The student-athletes will be formally inducted at an HHSAA Awards Banquet at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, at Dole Cannery's Pomaika'i Ballroom in Iwilei. The keynote speaker is Hawaii News Now sports reporter and 2005 Hall of Honor inductee Francesca Weems.
The Hall of Honor program has been recognizing the top 12 Hawai'i senior student-athletes each year since 1983.
