H-3 Freeway eastbound lanes reopened following fatal crash

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu police have reopened eastbound lanes of the H-3 Freeway after fatal motor vehicle accident.

The crash claimed the life of a 25-year-old man. Officials say he lost control of his motorcycle after he exited the tunnel on the H-3 Freeway heading into Kaneohe. EMS says there was one person on the motorcycle and he was ejected around 2:15 Sunday afternoon. They say he was wearing a helmet but it flew off upon impact.

The man was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m. when first responders arrived on scene.

At 2:50 p.m., Honolulu Police officers completely shut down all east bound lanes causing major traffic backups. They were diverting cars back into town just before the tunnel.
