LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Firefighters from the Lihue station responded to a brush fire Wednesday night that is believed to be intentionally set.
No injuries were reported.
The fire broke out at around 10:30 p.m. along Niumalu Road, across from Garden Island Disposal. Quick action by firefighters ensured that the blaze did not reach nearby structures before it could be fully extinguished by 11 p.m.
Less than one-acre of brush was scorched.
Fire officials are urging the community to be watchful in hopes of helping police locate the person or persons responsible for intentionally setting fires across the island since December of last year.
"We've been fortunate up to now that fires have not spread to nearby homes and businesses," stated Fire Prevention Captain Daryl Date. "However, as we head into the dry season, that becomes a threat of increasing concern."
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Dispatch immediately at 241-1711.
