WACO, Texas-University of Hawai'i women's tennis player, No. 95 Cindy Nguyen fell to No. 60 Beatrice Gumulya in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of the 2015 Women's Singles Championship at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.
In the first set, Nguyen came out strong, taking the first game of the first set, but then Gumulya, a senior from Clemson, reeled off the next six-straight games to capture the first set, 6-1.
Nguyen snapped her skid by taking the first game of the second set. But Gumulya won the next three games to jump out to a 3-1 lead in the second set. Nguyen then settled down and started to hit some of her shots and held her serve to cut her deficit to 3-2. Nguyen then broke Gumulya's serve for the first time in the second set to even things up at 3-3, but the savy senior broke right back to go up 4-3. The Clemson Tiger then held her own serve to increase her lead to 5-3, but Nguyen stayed alive by holding serve at 5-4. Gumulya then put the match away by winning the second set, 6-4.
