Motorcyclist critically injured in overnight crash near Sandy Beach

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are investigating a single motorcycle crash that injured a male rider around 12:35 a.m. Friday morning.

The rider, who has a Waimanalo address, was headed eastbound on Kalanianaole Highway when he lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected from the bike, police said. He sustained critical injuries.

Emergency Medical Services officials say the man, believed to be 20 to 30 years old, suffered multiple injuries and was taken to the trauma center.

Officials say it appears the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Speed is believed to have been a factor, but it's unknown if alcohol was involved.

Police closed off Kalanianaole Highway at both entrances of Sandy Beach Park while traffic division officers conducted their investigation.
