MAKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police are investigating a fatal accident in Makiki that happened Thursday afternoon.
Officials say a 44-year-old man was speeding his truck down Mott-Smith Drive when he lost control and crashed into a tree. The truck overturned and the victim became pinned under the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time, HPD said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Honolulu police temporarily closed roads from Makiki Heights Drive to Kalawahine Place and are rerouting traffic, but have since reopened.
Officials are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
