HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police say a 25-year-old man was seriously hurt during a hit-and-run incident near Waikiki around 12:15 a.m. Thursday.
Traffic investigators say the man was in a marked crosswalk crossing Kalakaua Avenue near Kapiolani Boulevard when a vehicle headed northbound struck him and then fled the scene.
Police later recovered the alleged suspect vehicle, which they say was a taxi, at a nearby business establishment. No arrests have been made.
Emergency Medical Services took the man to the trauma center in serious condition.
Investigators closed Kalakaua in the surrounding area for about two hours to conduct their investigation.
Police say they don't believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, and haven't said whether the victim had the walk sign while he was crossing the street.
Authorities have opened a Negligent Injury and Failure to Render Aid case. The investigation is ongoing.
